THE KINGS GUESTS

Name: Jed Clampett, Saint Louis, Missouri
Date: 15 Dec 2007
Comments: I just heard your song "This Beat GOes on/Switching to GLide" for the first time in a long time. What a classic song. You guys made my day!!  I had not heard your song "This beat goes on/Switchin to glide" in forever. I heard it today on our local station (FM 96.3) and was unsure who the band was. Thanks to the internet, now I know. Fabulous piece of work there, gentlemen. Good beat, awesome switch in tempo. Truly a classic!! Glad to hear you guys are still playing. It is a gift to be able to play music, compose music and such. Good fortune be with you and God Bless!! Have a joyous Christmas, be safe, take care and make it a point to contact an old friend or acquaintance. Like Elvis Costello says, Peace, Love and Understanding!!!

Comments: I found an old concert stub from "The Whisky a go go" on Sunset Blvd. It was dated Dec. 8th 1980, the night John Lennon died. The Kings were playing that night,I forgot the name of the other band that played with them. Some one announced that John had died, and everyone was either shocked or crying. I was wondering if the original band members have any memories of that night they would want to share. Thank you.

Comments: I grew up in Satellite Beach, FL, and back in the day (late 70's, early 80's) my friends and I used to get great different musi from my friend's cousin in Ohio. This cousin would put together party tapes, for us to smoke some mota and cruise to. The first songs I ever heard by the Kings were partyitis and it's okay. I fell in love with the group. You had such a sense of fun, and everytime i hear a song by you guys, it takes me back to those days....Thanks for the memories.

Comments:  You guys rule! I just found and bought my favorite song of all time on iTunes and then stumbled on your website! "Nothing matters but the weekend, from a Tuesday point of view", my anthem in the early 80's as I ran 8 to 16 miles per day in the cold, dark, snowy Syracuse winters to train for weekend road races and marathons, the Ironman Triathlon, and delusions of Olympic glory... a drunk driver cut short my Olympic dreams but I'll make sure to incorporate "the greatest training song of all time" into my daughter's training regimine!!! Glad to see (and hear!) that this Beat Goes On!!! still!!!

Comments:   Gentleman, even having survived my teenage years, I have never been the type to "glom on", or find myself mesmerized by any entertainers -- be they musicians, comedians, actors, or otherwise.

However ... the fact that I am writing this (after more than 25 years since hearing your initial offering, and buying your "The Kings Are Here" album) lets me know that there are certain, monentary evnts that touch us, and reach us; that DO stay with us, regardless of their relevant importance to the remainder of our lives ... and that we can still count on, and rely upon to bring a smile to our faces; a tap in our shoes; and cause a flurry of workplace "what is up with him?" glances from our co-workers! I absolutely LOVED your first album, and especially the segue songs, "Switchin to Glide/This Beat Goes On" (as did everyone else I knew back then).

It was new ... but more importantly, it was "retro" rock/disco/new wave, before any of those terms were commonplace.

To be honest, it was actually my brother's album, I think. But I played it to no end, and even though I haven't heard it played in over 20+ years (and di not get it recorded on tape), I STILL find it an amazingly joyous, rapturously-funky, toe-tapping, and "get crazy" type of song ... with which to do (very minor) "poinging" damage, as it dances about in my head!

That is, until ...

I found out that I could actually get the album again somewhere, and hear the tunes once again. I have been raving about your album and those particular songs to a co-worker for the past month ... but have yet to have been able to find the album here, or even a link to the songs or your website.

Consider it done.

My fellow 80's rockers will soon be able to recall and enjoy your music once again, for the first time, and in the office (as well as everywhere else).

I am now up-to-speed on you whereabouts, where you've been and what you've been up to musically ... and intend to cathc up on lost time, and finally buy some new "Kings" albums (er, DVDs)!

hanks so much for the memories ... and hopefully, someday, I'll get to take my wife to see you all live some day.

That song would be huge today if it were released in my opinion. It still sounds fresh and just takes it to a higher level you know? Great to stumble upon your website. Keep it up!!

Most likely because i could never find the music available, people would tell me at record stores that ''THEY WERE A TWO HIT BAND'' I'm still looking for the original studio recording! And if i could ever find the tab for those two songs with both the guitar and boards that'd be stellar. Love you guy's as well! Johnny

Comments:  Yes, I had just come from The Corktown Pub, I was happy to see the guys play the first set, live.  I had to leave right after to catch the latest bus home, I'm telling, it sure is cold tonight.  I met Mister Zero and David Diamond, yes, Happy Birthday Dave, geez, I didn't even know it was your birthday until tonight.   Great show guys.  Maybe I can get a chance to stay for a whole show next time, not too late.
Thanks Mister Zero and David Diamond for the invite.

Part-two- while I was the Corktown Pub, overall, the crowd enjoyed themselves, while the band mingled and had a great time also, meeting all their fans, including me.  I hope The Kings play at The CorkTown again, when it's warmer.   And the hours are earlier, gosh, I wish I could have stayed for that last show, them buses any ways.  I enjoyed myself, my right foot could not stop tapping to the songs. Comments:  Let's see if you can guess who I am. I used to hang out with you Dave and your lady on the farm I lived at in Burlington with an unpredictable character who referred to himself as "Johnny Blue". We used to have crazy jam sessions in the 'jam room'. I would run into you on occasion after that at either a show or at one of the local hang-outs. The last time I saw you and Zero, you had just finished the Oakville Street Festival and were winding down at 'Kokopelli's' where my dad (Michael Keys) was finishing up his gig for the night. You weren't feeling much pain so I don't know if you remembered me giving you my number to keep in touch. I never heard from you again. You and Zero recently came to mind again when my dad gave me a couple of your albums, "The Kings Are Here" and "The Kings". It got me thinking, are you (Dave) still in Burlington and is Zero still in Oakville? Still rockin' like there's no tomorrow? Drop me an email when you get the chance and fill me in on the latest. By the way Dave, how's the youngin'?

I have only lived in Louisville for a couple of years and have been in Salt Lake City, UT where suprisingly we had lots of Candian bands at the gardens at the U of U. Anyway-hope before it is too late you makes lots of money on your music. Helped me many hard nights in the 1980's. Thanks for the Switchin'To Glide-This beat does go on and always will!

I just purchased "Because of You" and can't wait to hear it, and will shortly send a Money Order for "Unstoppable". : Hey Dave...  Hi from Edmonton. Nice to see I finally found you guys. Homeless Joe is still wandering but I have given up the front desk life for a more relaxed version of me. Hope New Years with Allanah was a blast! It's been awhile but I wish you guys a Happy New Year's blast again and hope that you remember me. Cheers!

Comments: Will we see Craig Teeter (Space8) make a guest apperance tomorrow, Aug 12 on drums. It would certainly bring him up, he's been pretty down with all the bad news this year i.e. Bubba, Glennwright, his Dad.  See you tomorrow!  Doug

Comments: The Kings are Here is one of my favorite albums. I liked it when it first came out. I remember when the Kings were on American Bandstand but right bfore the band played it was interupted by some news event. I was very disappointed. It would be great to see more than a 30 second plus video of that performance. What does "Trudy" mean?

Comments: I have been looking for your album, tape or whatever for so long - same old story:) We used to have 1 tape that got passed around in school - we uncovered it for our 5 year reunion (1990) but have since lost it or it was too worn out to play anymore. My husband found your CD on ebay about 3 years ago. It is the best Christmas present I have ever received. I love you guys. When I listen to your music you make me feel so young and free again. Now that I know where to find you - I hope to catch a concert or anything. Please, please, please sell me a t-shirt!!!!!!!!!!  Keep Rockin'

Comments: What a treat seeing the original band members live at Hughs Room in Toronto after some fifteen years! What can I say; enjoyed you guys then and even more so know. Again a treat seeing and hearing Max on drums; he's got style. I guess thats why he goes by the name Max Styles. Sonny is great on key boards; I think he adds something special to the music. David, what can I say; great voice. I hope your head is OK after taking the bass guitar to it. Zero, you got to be one of the top three guitar players that ever lived; you rock!  Regards, John

: Just wanted wish you all the best on your reunion gig and to tell you how disapointed I am that I will not be there. Having had the pleasure to work with David and Mr Zero over my many years at The Wolf 101.5 FM, I'm sure tonight is going to be magical on so many levels!! Unfortunately while your banging out the hits as original as they can get...I'll be playing Switch into Glide with my acoustic guitar, bass and drums trio Lemon Pepper Pickerel...you know it's a great song when a band like ours can pack a dance floor with it!!

I'd rather be at your show tonight but as you know too well...that's show biz.  Let's talk about getting something from "Because of You" featured on 95.1 THE PEAK

Comments: Not a bad web site at all! I enjoyed getting up to speed on what The Kings have been doing -- the highs and lows, albums that went under my radar, and so on. I found a copy of *Because of You* at a local music store ... excellent CD! It's spent a lot of time in my CD player at home, and has gotten a lot of positive comments from friends who hear it.

I got a big kick out of reading the story behind the making of *Amazon Beach*. I scratched my head over that one a lot when it came out, but its better qualities have shown itself to me with repeated listens. (Would love to hear the original arrangements of the whole album; judging from the version of "The Fools are in Love" on *Because of You*, it sounds as if Ezrin derailed a lot of good band work, by not listening to your input.)

I saw The Kings play in Colorado, way back in the day, and still remember the show well. It's too bad I'm not so likely to see the band again any time soon, but who knows, one day fortune may bring me up to the Toronto area, and a Kings gig may be on my agenda. But in the meantime, hang in there, and keep rockin'!

Comments: Mister Zero!  No band has ever came close to eclipsing the distinct footprint The Kings left in the chronicles of rock. Your signature sound clearly defines The Kings as a band responsible for carving their own mark in music history, and has left a monumental impression on many peoples lives, mine being one of them.

I stand proud as an avid fan and anxiously await the next suprise from THE KINGS.  You guys absolutely R O C K ! ! !   Thanks for all the great parties, jams, and memories!
Sending our appreciation from the Heart of America to the Great White North, Greg.

Comments: I am thrilled!  I must admit, in the hurried life I live, I had allowed The Kings to slip back into the dusty cobwebs of my teen memories. Yesterday I found a box in storage that held a nice suprise. Down in the bottom were three old cassettes, The Knack, The Outfield, and THE KINGS!! I was ecstatic! Lost treasure recovered!  Memories of all the parties and jam sessions that rocked with your music flooded my head. Wow.

Now, years later, I have two sons that are walking in my foot steps learning to play multiple instruments (I've been a musician for three decades), and have already plundered my vintage music collections. Its not rare to hear my youngest son plinking out 80's tunes, and he is already eager to incorporate 4 of your songs into our set list.
